Are you interested in becoming a patroller?

The National Ski Patrol (NSP) has followed its creed of “Service and Safety” since its establishment in 1938. Since then, the NSP has become the largest winter rescue organization in the world. It is composed of more than 28,500 members serving over 600 ski patrols throughout the United States and Europe.

Here are the steps it will take for you to start your journey to become a ski/snowboard safety
professional:

First Year:

  1. Attend a “ski along” with the patrol where you will learn about the time and financial commitments.
  2. Begin the Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) course.
  3. Complete and pass the Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) exams.

Second Year:

  1. Attend refresher and lift evacuation training in October.
  2. Begin toboggan training and ski proficiency training when the hill opens.
  3. Complete and pass toboggan training and ski proficiency, usually in February.
